ripe は、「熟れた、円熟した、期が熟した」 という形容詞。動詞形が ripen で 「熟する」、「～を熟させる」 という意味。
The corn ripened in the sun. （トウモロコシが日光を浴びて熟した。）
His sympathy ripened into affections. （彼の同情は愛情に発展した。）
The sun ripened grapes.
